Mom and dad have noticed that I have a weak rear and back legs for awhile now, and they took me into the vet to get checked out on Monday. (We went to see Dr. Joanne Buehner at the Green Meadows Vet, recommended by Susan Crank, my puppy 2 class training instructor at
Incredipaws.) I had all the symptoms of hip dysplasia, and the initial physical exam wasn't promising. Mommy and daddy were very upset on Monday night, thinking that their hopes of me going running, backpacking, and doing dog agility with them were dashed. On Tuesday, I went back into the vet to get sedated to take xrays of my spine, hips, and shoulders. GOOD NEWS! My bones and joints are totally healthy -- no hip dysplasia for me!!
However, this leaves my back leg problems still a mystery. But since my xrays are totally normal, it may be caused by inflamed joints. I am on an anti-inflamatory medication for a few weeks and limited activity. I really miss going to class and the dog park, but mom and dad noticed that I'm already acting a lot healthier. I'm standing up quicker, not sleeping as much, and am much more interested in toys and the cats again! I see Dr. Buehner again next week for a follow-up to see if more treatment is necessary.
Since I can't run and jump too much for two weeks, mom and dad bought me a bunch of puzzles and "mental games" to keep busy. Also, I saw my first snow ever this week, even though there wasn't too much on the ground. All in all, an eventful week!

I can smell something yummy under there... |
|
What a fun yet tricky puzzle! Some pieces pop off, others slide off. |
|
Another new toy -- there are tiny holes on the end that dispenses food as I roll and play with it. |
|
The only problem with this one is that I unscrewed the whole thing in about 5 minutes....so mom and dad returned it and replaced it with.... |

...the "Bob-A-Lot"! Much more sturdy! |

Dala wanted to play too! |
